Since you guys are in Peru, might I suggest a trip up the Tambopata River for some ecotourism/macaw watching. I think the easiest way to do this is to get to Puerto Maldonado which I think you can fly to from Cusco. It sounds so similar to the kids I met in the villages of Cambodia!
